Focusing on sustainable tourism development
Sustainability as a value is deeply integrated into today‘s society. The value added by tourism stands increasingly beneath the sustainability dimensions of securing natural and cultural resources, establishing a trendsetting ecological resource management and the development of prosperity and satisfaction within the population.
Sustainable tourism nowadays includes all forms of tourism and comprises both niche products and mass touristic offers with high demands towards quality and sustainability. Only a systematic and sustainable integration and process approach in line with the tourism strategy can hold up these demands and further strengthen destinations to maintain a sustainable positioning amongst the national and international competition.
To prove your destination’s uniqueness in the best possible way, the certification process GreenSign Destination follows a collective “bottom-up” assessment for a sustainable tourism development concept of your destinations. The foundation is made up by international sustainability systems like the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC) and The Sustainability Code (Basis for the evaluation of the degree of sustainability with 20 criteria as the minimum requirement). Likewise it considers a criteria framework in the style of the practical guideline for destinations, which is being promoted by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.
We also offer a marketing approach for GreenSign Destination to directly address quality conscious and sustainably orientated target groups. Part of this is amongst other things the new sustainability magazine greenup with its presentations of the sustainability profile of destinations, used as a customer retention instrument, as well as a Cross Selling instrument for your hotel/destination (also available in selected book stores and at the airport), media partnerships with leading sustainability fairs in Germany, an upcycling stand concept with product presentations of the GreenSign hotels (e.g. ITB Berlin with about 60 m2) and further activities, which we define together with our partners.
